In this article, we derive the rules for a fuzzy logic based PID tuner (expert) for dominant pole systems with large rise times. We present applications of the expert to a third-order plant, separator temperature control, and pH control. It is observed that the expert can successfully tune the PID gains without requiring any process identification.
